Plants succulent shrubs or trees; latex clear or cloudy. Leaves alternate, at tips of branchlets. Flowers pedicellate; pedicels pubescent; corolla slightly zygomorphic; corolla-tube widened at the throat; lobes overlapping to the right in bud;corona appendages attached at the throat; stamens included to exserted; anthers with long, threadlike-appendages at the tip; ovaries of 2 carpels, united at the base; stigmatic head subcylindrical. Fruits 2 spreading or reflexed follicels, united at the very base, pubescent, with many seeds; seeds oblong, with turfts of hair at both ends.
Adenium includes 5 species. They grow in Africa and southern Arabia.
One species is known from Somaliland and Somalia, Adenium obesum.
