Abstract: Gilgit-Baltistan is the most northern level 2 administrative area of Pakistan. It is treated here as a province of Pakistan but the United Nations regards it as a disputed area that is administered by Pakistan. This checklist is dynamic which means it will change as new discoveries are made. It is being built from records in OpenHerbarium and a download from GBIF made on 18 January 2024. Its purpose is to encourage exploration and documentation of the area's flora by Pakistan's botanists. It includes all bryophytes, lycophytes, gymnosperms, and angiosperms in the lists from which it was developed. It will be updated from these same sources at irregular intervals. It is not, in itself, a research project but will, I hope, encourage collectors and observers of the area's plant life to share their findings so that all may benefit. I recommend using the "Central Thesaurus" when consulting it. This will, when appropriate, change the names on any of the contributing sources to those in the OpenHerbarium's default taxonomic backbone at the time of viewing. The backbone is based on POWO (flowering plants), Pteridoportal (including Lycophytes), Conifers.org (Gymnosperms), and Tropicos (Bryophytes) but the linkage to these resources is not automated. Moreover, in a few instances, OpenHerbarium's treatment it may differ from these based on published research. I emphasize that this list has been created to stimulate and assist botanical research in Gilgit-Baltistan, not as a definiteve list of taxa known to be present in the area. Several of the named taxa are currently not shown as occurring in Pakistan by POWO. Records with a GBIFID number as their source can be tracked back to the publishing source, but sometimes that is merely another checklist or database, not a specimen. But the names represent taxa worth investigation.
